STEP UP FOR KIDS

80 floors. 1,643 steps. Countless lives changed.

When a child you care about is in the hospital, you would do anything to make them feel better. By giving one day, climbing 1,643 steps and spreading the word to family and friends, you’re helping provide critical programs for the families at Lurie Children’s. Participants can choose to complete the full 80-floor climb or a half climb, and can register individually or form a team with friends, family or co-workers. From the first step to the post-event party, you’ll be challenged, inspired and celebrated. There is no better view than the one from the top of the Aon Center and no better feeling than knowing your effort has helped a family when they need it most.

K.I.D.S.S. for Kids (Kindness is Doing Something Special for Kids)

About Us

In 1991, ten people wanted to make a difference. More than thirty years and $16 million later, K.I.D.S.S. for Kids (Kindness is Doing Something Special for Kids), has involved hundreds of volunteers to become one of the largest organizations contributing to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Focusing their philanthropy on the hospital’s Family Services programs, K.I.D.S.S. for Kids has enabled hospitalized children and their families to receive emotional, spiritual, and social support. These programs include art therapy, recreation, tutoring, preparation for medical procedures, family resources, culturally appropriate care, pastoral bereavement counseling and more. Most of these essential programs are not reimbursed by insurance. Our support and philanthropy enables the dedicated professionals of Family Services to meet – and in many cases exceed – the needs of children and their families. Our mission is to ensure these programs remain available to each and every patient at Lurie Children’s.

Why Get Involved

K.I.D.S.S. for Kids was driven and built by the passion to help the patients at Lurie Children's feel like kids, no matter what they're going through. . What began as a small grass roots party of people has grown into a dynamic and dedicated group of board members raising millions of dollars annually. The last thirty years have set the foundation for something that could grow into something even bigger and better with your help! As we move towards the future we are looking for the next generation of people to help kids be kids.

Turn your steps into dollars raised

All donations support our Department of Family Services.

Dollars raised through Step Up for Kids help fund services that insurance doesn’t cover and programs that families don’t receive a bill for. Programs like pet therapy, in-hospital summer camp and school services are all provided by our Department of Family Services and supported by donations made to Step Up for Kids.
