Please Support My Efforts
“In the midst of the heavy, we will try and make things a little lighter…”
Every September, in honor of Childhood Cancer and Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month, the incredible staff on the Hematology and Oncology unit at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago comes together to support the brave patients and families they care for each day. What began in 2020 as a grassroots social media fundraiser by the nursing staff eventually grew into a dedicated fund called A Little Lighter. Created by a nurse (and personal friend) who was seeing these battles firsthand, the fund was born from a desire to ease the heavy emotional, physical, and financial burdens of a pediatric hematology or oncology diagnosis. My goal is to fundraise $500 in support of these life-changing efforts and help make things just a little bit lighter for a child and their family today.
Where Your Donation Goes:
- Direct funding for parent support groups, as well as Adolescent & Young Adult (AYA) support groups and events.
- Free parking passes for inpatient stays and outpatient appointments, plus comforting meals offered to families on the unit.
- Fulfilling A Little Lighter's Amazon Wish List to provide kids with distraction items, supplies for bubble parades, birthday and hospital room decorations, educational items, and specialized medical supplies.
- Funding vital Pediatric Oncology and Sickle Cell Disease research at Lurie Children’s Hospital in hopes of one day finding a cure.
